A community Preschool: created and managed by the community for its children
What began as a small play group in 1972, housed in the local Boy Scouts hall and the Anglican parish, grew in six short years to become the Nambucca Valley’s longest serving Preschool: The Nambucca Preschool (Nambucca Heads Preschool Playcentre Ltd), formerly known as Little Possums.
All it took was the creativity, initiative and dedication of a few young mothers, a local community committed to the emotional and social development of their children, and a vacant block of land secured in 1977. Plus, the absolute generosity and support of the Nambucca Valley community who provided cost price materials and labour, and significant donations to construct the wonderful centre that stands on the corner of Bank and West Streets today.

Thirty seven years on, our team of educators and families are humbled and truly grateful. The Nambucca Heads Lions Club, Nambucca Heads Rotary Club, Nambucca Plumbing, the R.S.L. Club and many businesses and families within the community helped to make our centre what it is today.
A true community preschool created by the community for the wellbeing and development of the community of local children that it supports.
Managed by a wonderful parent committee
As a community owned, not for profit children’s service, a dedicated committee of parent volunteers manage and run our Preschool. Our strategic planning works towards the future viability of our preschool, so all of funds are re-directed into the centre.
The result is a caring, child-focused and affordable Preschool in the Nambucca Valley that welcomes families from all cultures and incomes, supports children of all abilities (particularly those with disabilities and special needs) and provides a program that encourages children to be themselves and develop at their own pace.
Nambucca Preschool is a public company registered on 29 April 1977 with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) and Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC). It is licensed and regulated by the NSW Department of Education & Community Services, and receives funding for children with additional needs, enabling us to support all families in the Nambucca Valley community.
